On the day of your test, you will be taken to a DSA test centre and assessed by an examiner. This test centre will be in the area that you have carried out your training.
Before commencing your test, you will be asked to read a number plate at a specified distance. You will also be asked two questions about maintenance and controls of your vehicle. These questions can be found on www.dsa.gov.uk a sample of which will be supplied on arrival.
The practical test will take approximately 35 – 40 minutes and you will be asked to perform a number of manoeuvres which could include bay parking, parallel parking, reversing round a corner and turning in the road. You may also have to undertake an emergency stop. You will also be assessed on your driving ability which could include traffic lights, roundabouts, junctions and hill starts. Courtesy to other road users is also taken into account and your test will cover an average of 10 miles.
At the end of your test, you will be notified by your examiner if you have passed or failed and given a debrief. In order to pass, you must not make any serious or dangerous faults and no more than 15 minor faults.
Your examiner will give you a check list which will identify any minor or serious faults incurred. In the event of a failure, this will help to assist your instructor identify the areas which require further intuition.

If you are unfortunate to fail your practical test, you will be required to wait a further 10 days before taking a retest.
